Perambulations

The curve represented in each of these images is defined by a parametric equation; the curve serves as a guide for a series of plates which are placed at a calculated constant distance along the curve from its initial point. The shape, color, and opacity of the plates are functions of the distance along the curve. The paper Generating a “3D” Image from One Continuous 2D Curve describes how these images were generated.

Two of these images (Perambulations #5 and #2) were exhibited at the 2014 Joint Mathematics Meetings in Baltimore at an Math Art Exhibit held in conjunction with the conference. Three images (Perambulations #6, #9, and #10) were exhibited at the 2014 Bridges Conference Math Art Exhibit in Seoul, Korea.
